Suzarosa, the wedding venue with a view to die for.
Are you considering getting married in the Blue Mountains in NSW Australia? May I suggest considering Suzarosa in Bilpin. On 18.4.24 I was able to photograph my first Blue Mountains wedding, and I absolutely fell in love! I met Joey and Rebecca at a previous wedding and I was honoured when they got in contact to hire me for their wedding photography. They selected Suzarosa as their wedding venue, an all in one estate located in Bilpin, Blue Mountains NSW that was absolutely breathtaking. Check out some of the reasons I would recommend this wedding location from the perspective of a wedding photographer.
An Autumn Wonderland
Bec and Joey chose mid Autumn (First school holidays for the year) for the wedding date and it was the perfect timing for beautiful oranges, reds, yellows and greens mixed together that just screamed Autumn. There are a large number of plants and trees surrounding the venue that are in the process of beginning to lose their leaves as winter peaks its head around the corner. This produces rich vivid colours that are only achievable in this particular window of the year and with the correct type of trees. Suzarosa has a great blend of both types of trees as well, so if you are looking to get married later in Autumn there are still plenty of trees and plants for backdrops that are green year round.
TLDR: If you want Autumn vibes, this is the spot.

Ceremony - A look out that literally took our breath away
Suzarosa is a private estate that has the most breathtaking view I think I have ever seen for a ceremonial backdrop, literally in the grounds of the venue and only a few metres away from the main house. This made for amazing photos during the reception but also afterwards with the couple as well. Having a large view as well, extended our time for golden hour as we did not lose the sun early behind a tree line on the edge of the venue, allowing us to shoot right up to almost 5:30pm on a day that expected the sun to set at around 5pm.
TLDR: The view speaks for itself

Photoshoot locations - too many of them
I did a location scout of Suzarosa the day before the wedding and planned out my approach for wedding portraits for the couple and was pleasantly able to organise a circular loop of the venue that provided a large number of unique shooting locations. They were all a short walk away from each other allowing us to keep the energy flowing, but not so far apart that it felt like we were going on a hike with the newly weds. The day before the wedding had very heavy rainfall as well, so I spent some of that afternoon scouting potential indoor shooting locations just in case it did rain on their wedding day. I found a number of amazing angles that I would have included on the wedding day but unfortunately ran out of light and the house was being used by catering and guests so we stuck outside.
TLDR: Heaps of photo locations all super close to one another, including awesome indoor locations in case of bad weather.

All in one venue
Stay the night before, no travelling on the day for your guests between ceremony and reception, no travelling to scenic photo locations, no travel at the end of your wedding night. Too often weddings are eaten up by having to just move from one location to another which adds another planning element, things to go wrong and just overall increases potential stress on the day. Suzarosa eliminated all of these issues by having the ceremony, reception, photo opportunities, sweeping landscape views, outdoor fireplace and protection from the elements all within a short walk from each other. This allowed us to have a later ceremony for Autumn standards finishing at 4pm, taking a group photo, bridal party photos and couple photos over the span of an hour and a half finishing at 5:30pm when the sun went down. This ultimately led to more memories being captured as part of Joey and Bec’s wedding photography coverage. The couple had over one hundred guests at their wedding so opted to hire a large marquee to have their wedding reception. Even though this was a large marquee, it fit easily on the expansive grounds of Suzarosa.
TLDR: Have your ceremony, reception and photos taken in one location to eliminate travel on your wedding day!

Accommodation
The house at Suzarosa is absolutely beautiful. Multiple bedrooms and bathrooms for a full bridal party, beautifully styled, huge lofted roof, expansive covered outdoor deck and large kitchen to assist onsite catering options. Stay the night before to help set up your wedding day and stay the night of your wedding as well. I was lucky enough to book accommodation 3 minutes away at an AirBNB on one of the many Apple Orchards located in Bilpin.
TLDR: Stay at your wedding location
Nicole and I made a few days out of capturing this wedding by staying overnight in Bilpin. We were able to go and meet the couple the afternoon before the wedding, plan locations together, take a few pre-wedding photos, and ease any pre-wedding nerves. We absolutely had a great time working not only with Bec and Joey, but at Suzarosa as well. We highly recommend this location for a wedding spot in Bilpin, Blue Mountains NSW and we would love to be considered again for future weddings at this location. Feel free to get in contact so we can chat and help you get started planning your wedding photography and videography at this venue.
